2010 Convocation Ceremony- Fairmont Towers

 

On Monday 5th July 2010 the CIC celebrated their third annual Convocation  in style at the Fairmont Towers, Canyon Ballroom.

 

It was definitely a night to remember with over 150 students graduating from the Canadian International College (CIC) and Cape Breton University (CBU) it was a proud moment for us all. Highlights of the past four years for the graduates were shown via a short video clip to all our honorable guests taking everyone on a trip down memory lane, there were naturally some tears of joy and sadness that their time at the CIC as students was coming to an end, but they turned their dreams into reality and did ‘graduate as professionals!’
 
Dr. Zahi Hawass world renowned Archeologist & Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities was presented with the Special CBU Award by Dr. John Harker, CBU President and

Dr. Magdy El-Kady, CIC President in recognition of his outstanding role in bringing the world of the Pharaos into the homes and hearts of people all over the world. Dr. Zahi Hawass also gave an outstanding speech dedicated to the graduates inspiring them by sharing his own story;

“I found my passion at the stroke of a brush’’. Dr. Zahi Hawass went on and stated that it was not enough to “love or like” what you do but you need to have “passion” and be dedicated and once you find your “passion” “…you will make it BIG” he stated.

the Director of International Programs and Partnerships at Cape Breton University (CBU)  was presented with the CIC Special Award by Dr. John Harker, and Dr. Magdy

El-Kady, in recognition of his everlasting contribution and cooperation.
 
There was an array of talent portrayed with many awards presented including the ‘Abdullah Salam Entrepreneurship Awards’ which were presented to three teams of CIC students for Innovative Business Ideas. The Youth Community Development Award and The Scientific Innovation Award. CIC and CBU Medal Awards for Top Students and Best Graduation Projects were also presented and selected voted Faculty were recognized for their dedication and were presented with the Faculty Excellence Awards by the Student Union.
 

His Excellency Mr. Ferry de Kerckhove the Canadian Ambassador in Egypt also gave an interesting speech about the importance of relationships between Egypt and Canada and how important it is in Egypt to utilize the assets and population that cohabits in Egypt. Mr Ferry de Kerckhove also congratulated the graduates and conveyed how great an event the Convocation was.

Dr. Magdy El-Kady addressed the graduating class with a warm congratulations and motivated them by highlighting that they were the future whatever their chosen respective careers may be.
Dr. John Harker, CBU President & Vice Chancellor, gave a speech again congratulating the graduates and underscored the words of wisdom given in previous speeches and the graduates were immensely inspired to go and face the challenging market that will face them.

Dr. Adel M. Zaki CIC Dean, Dr. John Mackinnon Dean School of Business, Dr. Allen Britten Dean School of Engineering Technology, Dr. Roger Winn – Academic Vice President and Mrs. Alexis Manley CBU Registrar were all among the attendees.
 
The night ended with a big bang, with all students throwing their caps in the air to signify their graduation and a flood of congratulations followed from all those attending.

In short Congratulations 2010 CIC graduates you made us all proud!
